A Musical Journey In Italy
by Hector Berlioz
The book is part of the 'Memoirs' written by the musician during the course of his life. Berlioz often leaves Rome and Villa Medici in order to go on excursions into the mountains of Abruzzo where he takes an interest, amongst other things, in popular folk music. The book is full of amusing anecdotes, but also contains severe technical judgements on sacred music and on the music played in the opera houses of Italy's main cities.
